From its beginnings in 1987, Dimas & Silva has been driven by teamwork, innovation and a shared commitment to provide premium cork solutions to a wide range of industrial challenges. Today we proudly announce our latest venture into the sports and lifestyle industry with the official launch of Hara Surfboards — a pioneering line of differentiated, sustainable surfboards engineered to redefine modern surfing.

Combining centuries-old cork heritage with cutting-edge design by the acclaimed shaper Luís Carvalho, Hara harnesses the unmatched structural properties and texture of natural cork. The collaboration blends a deeply rooted design philosophy with rigorous industrial precision.

Built for rhythm, crafted for longevity

Derived from the Japanese concept meaning the center of the body — the place from which movement flows effortlessly — Hara embodies a shift away from high-stress performance toward deep connection, rhythm and structural awareness.

Technically superior and environmentally responsible, the boards are constructed using a precision-engineered, vacuum-bonded sandwich structure. An eco-friendly XPS core is fused with carbon-fiber and natural cork. This construction delivers several distinct advantages:

  • Exceptional durability & shock absorption — the unique cell structure of natural cork absorbs vibration and withstands heavy impacts, drops, sun and salt, creating a virtually stress-free, low-maintenance board.
  • Advanced flex pattern — the natural elasticity of cork balances the high reactivity of carbon, ensuring smoother, highly controlled maneuvers with a unique feel.
  • Eco-driven manufacturing — the production process uses zero acetone and releases 97% less dust than traditional fiberglass surfboard fabrication, with a 75% bio-based and recycled construction.

Celebrated by champions

From the cork forests to the ocean

To celebrate this historic milestone, the Dimas & Silva family recently hosted Portuguese national youth surfing champions Tiago Stock Faria and Francisco Mittermayer at our headquarters, just off Porto. The athletes toured the facilities, delved into the history of our cork processing, and got a firsthand look at the engineering and organic textures behind the flagship models — Fish Wisdom, Golden Eye and Cosmic Egg.
