LOCATION OF THE CORK OAK FOREST
The cork oak has as natural habitat the regions of the Mediterranean
basin: Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Morocco, Tunisia
and Algeria. Thus, it occupies a significant area in southern Europe
and North Africa.
Portugal concentrates a third of the global area of cork oaks,
standing out as the largest producer. It is the country responsible
for about 50% of the world transformation.
The cork oak is classified as a national tree, occupying an important
forest area. The reforestation and maintenance of cork
oak forests are activities of great importance for the preservation
and sustainability of the cork oak.
